Kutztown Rallies Past Lock Haven, 70-61, Behind Bryant's 21-Point Night

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Jalen Bryant scored 21 points and Kutztown erupted for 47 second-half points to overcome a 12-point halftime deficit, defeating Lock Haven 70-61 on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena in a PSAC matchup that turned dramatically in the Golden Bears' favor after intermission.

With the victory, Kutztown improves to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in PSAC play. Lock Haven falls to 3-9 and 1-6 in conference action.

The Bald Eagles came out firing in the opening half, riding a remarkable shooting performance from Blake Deegan — who drained all six of his three-point attempts — to build a 35-23 lead heading into the break. Lock Haven went 14-of-31 from the field in the first half and connected on 7-of-16 from beyond the arc, suffocating Kutztown's offense at every turn. The Golden Bears could manage only seven first-half field goals and committed seven turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.

But halftime adjustments proved pivotal. Kutztown came out of the locker room with a sense of urgency, chipping away at the deficit with an aggressive attack that leaned heavily on ball pressure and transition opportunities.

Bryant was the catalyst throughout. The guard played all 40 minutes, hitting 4-of-10 from three-point range, adding three steals, and converting at crucial moments down the stretch. He punctuated Kutztown's comeback with a steal-and-layup off a Warren turnover at the 17:19 mark of the second half that trimmed the lead to 40-28, setting the tone for what was to come.

Jordan Nkoa Abessolo was equally important, finishing with 16 points, nine rebounds, and two steals. He was a constant presence in the paint, and his fourth-quarter dunk off an Omari Banks assist with 49 seconds remaining all but sealed the outcome, pushing Kutztown's lead to 68-61.

Omari Banks filled the stat sheet with 13 points and six assists, while Yahmir Satterfield chipped in 13 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer at the 3:39 mark that gave Kutztown a 62-59 lead it would never relinquish.

The turning point came midway through the second half. After Deegan's three-pointer knotted the score at 51-37 in Lock Haven's favor, Kutztown rattled off a decisive run fueled by turnovers and offensive rebounds. The Golden Bears converted 19 points off turnovers and scored 30 points in the paint, wearing down a Lock Haven team that committed 12 turnovers on the night.

For Lock Haven, Deegan finished with a dazzling 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three. Dyllon Scott added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Dean Coleman-Newsome contributed 12 points and six assists. But the Bald Eagles shot just 10-of-26 in the second half, and their advantage evaporated against Kutztown's relentless second-half pressure.
