Lock Haven Sweeps Bloomsburg in Dominant Three-Set Performance

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Lock Haven left no doubt Tuesday night at Thomas Field House, overwhelming visiting Bloomsburg in straight sets, 25-17, 25-21, 25-16, to improve to 3-3 in PSAC play in front of 185 fans in a match that lasted just over an hour.

The Bald Eagles controlled the action from wire to wire, hitting a crisp .337 as a team compared to Bloomsburg's woeful .133 clip, handing the Huskies their sixth consecutive conference loss to drop to 0-6 in PSAC play.

Junior outside hitter Madelyn Mitchell was the engine that drove Lock Haven's offense all evening, finishing with a match-high 12 kills on 33 attempts while adding six digs and a service ace for 13.0 total points. Mitchell was particularly relentless in the third set, rattling off three consecutive kills during a stretch that effectively put the match out of reach before Lock Haven had even reached the midway point of the set.

Lola Coulter provided a complementary punch with nine kills on 22 swings, hitting .364, while Gracelynn Wolzen chipped in eight kills and anchored the team's blocking effort with three block assists. Payton Stanton was a force at the net as well, posting six kills on just eight attempts for a sizzling .625 hitting percentage, adding four total blocks including one solo.

Setter Madelyn Wagner orchestrated the offense efficiently, distributing 19 assists on the night while libero Olivia Taylor anchored the back row with 12 digs and four service aces — three of which came in a pivotal second-set run that blew the set open at 1-1 and quickly pushed the lead to 6-1.

The first set established the tone. After Bloomsburg grabbed the game's first point on a Lock Haven service error, the Bald Eagles rattled off six straight points behind Natalie Acevedo's serve, posting kills from Mitchell and Wolzen while forcing three Bloomsburg attack errors. Though the Huskies twice trimmed the deficit to single digits, Lock Haven never let them get closer than seven points in the closing stages.

The second set proved the most competitive, with eight ties and four lead changes as Bloomsburg's Allison Saalfrank went on a three-point service run to give the Huskies a brief 12-11 advantage. But Lock Haven steadied itself, with Wagner's serve igniting a decisive late run that included back-to-back kills from Wolzen and a Stanton block to close it out, 25-21.

The third set was never close. Mitchell's three-kill burst pushed the lead to 13-5, and a service run by Acevedo that included two consecutive aces extended the advantage to 22-12, putting the sweep well in hand.

Saalfrank led Bloomsburg with eight kills and 10 digs, while Emily Gustie posted a difficult night at the net going minus-.182 on 22 attempts despite contributing 12 digs. The Huskies committed 16 attack errors compared to Lock Haven's eight.

Lock Haven improves to 5-13 overall with the victory.
