Bald Eagles Take Opener to Earn Split with Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W. Va. - Glenville State salvaged a split on Saturday afternoon at SMSC, dropping the opener before rebounding with a dominant shutout in the nightcap to send Lock Haven home with a 1-3 record. The Pioneers rode a dominant pitching performance from Adrian Orozco in Game 2 to wash away the sting of a chaotic first game, while the Bald Eagles showed enough in the opener to remind anyone watching they are capable of putting up crooked numbers in a hurry.

Game 1: Lock Haven 9, Glenville State 4

The first game turned into a bullpen disaster for Glenville State, as Lock Haven erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to overcome an early 4-1 deficit and pull away for the 9-4 victory.

Glenville State's Zach Dellerman started and was effective enough early, but ran into trouble in the third inning after two wild pitches allowed Jacob Meadows to advance before Adam Bright delivered a two-run double down the left-field line to give the hosts a 4-1 advantage. Greyson McNeill added a two-RBI single to cap a four-run third.

Lock Haven's answer in the fourth was relentless and messy for Glenville State's pitching staff. Starter Kevin Grenninger had been yanked heading into the inning, and the combination of Luka Moore, Ty Walton, Carson Currey, and Ashton Crace simply could not find the strike zone. Walk after walk, a hit-by-pitch, a hit, another hit-by-pitch — the Bald Eagles sent 13 batters to the plate, scoring eight times. Four of those runs were unearned, stemming from two errors by second baseman Adam Bright. Currey was charged with the loss.

Nick Negola drove in two runs on a sacrifice fly and a single, while Gardner Fravel, Kaden Rodarmel, and Braden Cummings each contributed RBI hits during the eighth-inning. Cummings also drew two walks and scored twice out of the leadoff spot before giving way to Jackson Bower.

Nate Mostosky was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion, earning the win in relief after entering in the third inning with Glenville State threatening. He tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, stranding two inherited runners and allowing no hits. Holden Ward and W. Stambaugh each added a clean inning to close it out.

Glenville State's Boddy Wilenius was excellent in mop-up duty, throwing three hitless innings, but the damage had long been done.

Game 2: Glenville State 9, Lock Haven 0

The Pioneers wasted little time asserting themselves in the second game, using a methodical, multi-inning offensive build and a pristine outing from Adrian Orozco to blank Lock Haven across seven frames.

Orozco, a sophomore, was masterful. He permitted just three hits — a leadoff double from Zachary McEllroy in the first, a single from Tom Rohan in that same inning, and a leadoff single from Gardner Fravel in the sixth — while punching out six Bald Eagles. He threw six innings, and Cameron Byers handled the seventh.

Lock Haven's Andrew Kramer started and was victimized partly by his own team's defense. Three errors helped inflate a five-run fourth inning, with Gardner Fravel's throwing error on a Zach Dellerman grounder allowing two unearned runs to score and forcing Kramer out of the game. Michael Mariano Jr. came on and was similarly hurt by Lock Haven's sloppy play — a throwing error by Cayden Robertson and a two-base error by Nick Negola in the fifth turned a manageable situation into a four-run inning. Luke Sweigar drove in two runs across the game, Adam Bright added a double and an RBI, and Cody Rinehart's leadoff double in the fifth sparked Glenville State's biggest inning.

Lock Haven left just three runners on base all game, never generating the kind of sustained traffic that fueled their Game 1 eruption.
